The city of Des Moines is located on the shore of Washington’s Puget Sound. The coastal city is home to multiple pier fishing facilities, recreational marina, Redondo Beach boardwalk and the Highline Community College. Approximately 29,000 people make their homes in Des Moines’s 6.3 square miles (as per the 2000 census).

The Des Moines Police Department serves the community with all its policing needs. Within the Department are Emergency Management units, Reserve Officers Unit, Animal Control, Crime Prevention and a Citizens Academy. The Des Moines Police Department maintains a close and productive relationship with the city’s residents and continues to offer many programs in community relations.
