Gardena city is located in the Los Angeles County of California. It is about six square miles and approximately 60,000 inhabitants.  Approximately 16% of these citizens live below the poverty line, including 22% of those under age 18 and 10% over 65.

The Gardena Police Department staffs 115 full-time and 31 part-time employees. These employees are organized into three departments: Field Operations, Investigations, and Support/Administration. Within each department there are several Bureaus and Task Forces. The Operations division includes police officers, sergeants, lieutenants, a captain and police assistants and canines.

The Gardena Police Department utilizes the Tiburon Records Management System.
