In their short history, the Federal Way Police Department has accomplished a great deal. In 2002, they became a nationally accredited agency through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). They are one of the youngest agencies ever to receive that recognition. In 2004, Federal Way PD achieved full staffing levels and moved into a wonderful new building. Most importantly, they have driven down their over-all crime rate each and every year since their inception.
Federal Way is a city of 86,000 residents located 20 miles south of Seattle and just north of Tacoma, Washington. They are a unique department in that they are a start up agency and have only been operating since October 1996. The Federal Way Police Department is an agency comprised of 155 employees, 119 of whom are fully commissioned police officers.
