Orlando (FL) Police Department chooses Coplogic's Online Citizen Reporting System

With a population of approximately 220,000, Orlando is the sixth largest city in Florida. The city is perhaps best known for its tourist attractions. Walt Disney World Resort, SeaWorld, Universal Orlando Resort, and the Orange County Convention Center all attract visitors to Orlando. The high influx of daily visitors into the city can be an added constraint to Orlando Police Department. In order to better serve their large community, the OPD has implemented the Coplogic electronic police report filing software. The Orlando Police Department wanted their community to be able to complete online police reporting. This will offer convenience and peace-of-mind to any community members whom unfortunately are the victims of lost property, vehicle burglary, identity theft, harassing phone calls, theft, vandalism, hit & run, or vehicle tampering.

Orlando citizens will now be able to log onto the internet, sign onto their local police department’s website and, from there, fill out a series of basic questions that will ultimately lead to the completion and filing of an Internet police report. All this is done from the resident’s familiar home computer or at a public kiosk equipped with the desk officer reporting system.

Not only will this process be easy for the citizen, but will also result in more accurate reports for officers. Furthermore, both parties will get information in the most timely manner: victims of crime will not need to wait for patrol officers to arrive; and law enforcement agencies will now be able to save hundreds of man-hours.

Especially beneficial to large and diverse communities is the built-in multilingual support. Now victims of crime can contribute crucial information in the language they are most comfortable with. Likewise, officers can read filed reports in the language that they are familiar with. By overcoming potential communication hurdles, the Orlando Police Deparment will be better able to serve their county.

Being a bustling center for tourism, Orlando sees its fair share of daily influx in visitors. This citizen internet police reporting system will allow those who pass through Orlando to file crime reports if they should happen to encounter troubles within the city limits.

The transition into online citizen police reporting went seamlessly. The software that enables citizens to file police reports online by Coplogic is designed to work with the agency’s records management system. The Orlando Police Department uses a RMS by New World Systems. The ability to put reporting in the hands of the citizen supplements the department’s records system, no matter which vendor the department has chosen. The Orlando Police Department experienced virtually no ramp up time.

We are excited the Orlando Police Department is utilizing the latest technology in order to better serve their community. And Coplogic is happy to offer the OPD assistance in integrating the online citizen report filing system with the department’s preexisting web infrastructure. In addition to the software, Coplogic will also be providing support and updates free of charge.

Computerized online policing resources will truly better the relationship between law enforcement officials and their communities.
